How it is wired
This is an advanced switching layout built around two humbuckers with a single master volume and master tone. On top of the standard controls, it adds several switches that expand the tonal range:
- 5-way switch: selects between the two humbuckers and their combined and split positions across the range.
- Two phase switches: flip the phase of the pickups. In-phase gives the normal full sound; out-of-phase gives a thinner, hollow, quacky tone when both pickups are on.
- Reverse polarity switch: reverses the polarity in the circuit for further tonal variation.
- Kill switch: momentarily cuts the signal to silence when pressed, used for stutter and rhythmic effects.
Tips
- The ground runs to the bridge, so make sure the bridge ground connection is clean for a hum-free result.
- Wire colors may vary between kit batches, so match by position on the diagram, not by color.
- With this many switches, work one connection at a time and check each against the diagram before moving on. Patience matters more than speed here.
