2 P90 Pickups — 2 Volume, 2 Tone, 3-Way Switch

GKW kits that use this wiring

  • Single-cutaway P90 (dual pickup): LP-RMRC-883 and similar two-P90 builds with 2 volume, 2 tone, and a 3-way toggle switch

How it’s wired

  • Each P90 has its own volume and tone control, just like a classic dual-humbucker layout.

  • The 3-way toggle switch selects the neck pickup, both pickups together, or the bridge pickup.

  • Each tone pot pairs with one capacitor (so a two-tone build uses two capacitors total, one per tone control). If you find a capacitor loose in your parts bag, it solders across the tone pot lugs, it is part of the circuit, not a spare.

Tips

  • P90 pickups are single-coil but wider and fatter than standard single coils. They may hum in high-gain settings — this is normal for single-coil pickups.

  • Wire colors may vary between kit batches — match by position, not color.

  • Double-check your ground connections. A loose or missing ground (including the capacitor’s ground leg) is the most common cause of hum or no output.
