What this layout does
This is an HSH set (humbucker, single coil, humbucker) wired for two volumes and no tone, run through a 5-way switch:
- Master volume (neck & bridge): one volume controls the two humbuckers.
- Middle volume: a second, independent volume controls the middle single coil on its own.
- No tone control: both pots are wired as volumes, which suits a body with only two knob holes.
- 5-way switch: selects across the three pickups and their combined positions.
Tips
- This layout uses two 500k volume pots. Wire both as volumes, not one as a tone.
- The ground runs to the bridge, so make sure the bridge ground connection is clean for a hum-free result.
- Wire colors may vary between kits and pickups, so match by position on the diagram, not by color.
- Works with 2-conductor pickups (hot and ground). No coil-split wiring is needed for this setup.
- If your pickups or switch are laid out differently from the diagram, reply below with a close-up photo of your pots, switch, and pickup leads before you solder, and we will confirm the path for your build.
